The Restoration Process (2017-2018)
A full restoration of the castle was undertaken over an 18 month period between Jan 2017 and Jun 2018, transforming the building into a wonderfully comfortable modern day home.
Restoration by architect Jaime Fernández
Once the land had been cleared, the design approved and Planning Consent granted, works could begin. The restoration was completed using traditional and rigorous restoration techniques but also innovative solutions. Pivotal to this was the use of 3D Laser Scan Technology, which reduced the time and cost involved in producing bespoke joinery parts, staircases and stonecraft with milimetrical precision. The technology even enabled the asymmetrical helicoidal staircase to be CNC cut, assembled in a workshop and installed all within the void of a turret. Windows and doors were measured and designed on a computer, and he scan also enabled the building of timber arch formers from plotter printed paper templates.
The restoration was awarded a prestigious Design Award from the Aylesbury Vale District Council, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the design quality of the built environment in the district.
