Dinton Castle
Beautifully restored 18th Century folly, as seen on Grand Designs
WELCOME
Dinton Castle, also known as Dinton Folly, was built in 1769 by Sir John Van Hatten on the outer perimeter of the Dinton Hall estate. He intended the building to serve not only as a decorative structure (an ‘eye-catcher’), but also as a showcase for his collection of ammonite fossils embedded in the limestone walls. A fire in the late 1700s destroyed the wooden interior, leading to its decline. The ruins were left abandoned for nearly 200 years, with the ravages of time taking their toll on the structure. In 2016, Spanish architect Jaime Fernandez purchased the site and transformed it into a two-bedroom home, giving it a new lease of life. The final result was a charming and delightful miniature castle, featured on the show "Grand Designs" in 2018. Since then the Castle has attracted a lot of interest on social media - enjoy the videos below and on the video page.
